first woodworking project/boot jack

I used way more tools and techniques to create this “simple” project then I needed to, but outside of making and hanging shelves this is my first real woodworking project that I did from start to finish. My goal was to use as many of my new tools as possible and make something useful.

Used my new bench dog (after I set up the vice and system) to plane a warped board I found leftover in my garage. Used a router and table to true an edge and create a dado (should have used the table to round over the edges as well but wanted to experiment hand held). I’m still in need of a table saw so I used a circular saw with some creative clamping to rip a 2×6 with an 18° bevel (pulled out the old trig tables to figure that out). Used a new set of chisels to angle the dado and a pocket screw jig to hold the 2×6 in place.

I learned I need to think about finish much earlier than when I’m actually finishing haha. But it’s fully functional and it’s mine! Can’t wait to get to my next project

Jack ...

Congratulations, you are on your way. Very creative working with what you have.

I am going to echo what Jack said in that you were creative enough to use what you have and came up with a beautiful, functional piece! Wood finishes aren’t easy so just watch as many youtube video’s you can and ask a lot of questions of people who are in the know! As far as a table saw goes you may want to look into a trac saw for your circular saw! I have one and use it a lot! Nice work!
