Flower

The wood in this flower came from a tree that was alive when Columbus got off of his boat centuries ago! Because this slab of old growth redwood I lucked into is so old I wanted to learn how to work with the wood by building small projects like this.

Click this YouTube link to see video of the slab in all of its glory!!! Really it is an amazing piece of wood. https://youtu.be/k7LBR3iSjGI.

Or this link which has a bunch of pictures: https://youtu.be/unqcPsbwoYs.

While building it I paid attention to the grain pattern on each piece to make the flower more realistic. You should see this thing in the sunlight!!! Pictures don’t do it justice… :(

I built the flower itself from a kit called RoseBud using a plunge router and an RO Sander. Click the YouTube link to see an animated build.

That slab was so amazing. I would have made a table out of it just as it was. That grain just popped. Where did you get it and how much is a slab like that?
Your creation is awesome. Nicly done!

EZInlays ...

@Jeff, I’m writing about how I got the slab on my website :http://www.ezinlays.com/the-phoenix-project.html. I call it the Phoenix Project.

I plan on making a few tables but using the whole slab to do that would have been a waste of material.

My goal is to share this piece of Americana with as many people as possible. The more people who can admire the natural beauty of this wood the better!
