This simple desk organizer is an exercise in a different kind of marquetry that I have been wanting to pursue for a while.
My first attempt at monochrome was this same ship albeit smaller on the chart boxes that I posted a couple of years ago. I liked it but thought I could do it better a little bigger. I’m quite happy with the way it came out.
So what is monochrome? It is marquetry cut all from the same piece of veneer leaving the sand shading as the only element distinguishing the pieces from each other. If you look closely you can see the grain flowing right through the picture.
All the veneer is from a small stack of sequenced Olive burl that I was given a few years ago and it was stack cut on the chevalet. The only fastening is hot hide glue (of course).
Thanks for looking
