Pretty cool. I like how it complements the bricks and the gravel.

The dark/ light was totally coincidental I ordered the timber and it came sawn but the 3×2 that I cut the cladding from was cut from very dark brown heart wood.

Wonderful traditional looking gate.

I am currently building a small lean-to type of shed and I plan to make framed doors for the front but I was worried about water collecting between the panel and the bottom rail. It’s interesting to see how you handled the water problem by deleting the bottom rail while still having it supported with the inside rails and diagonal supports. The dowels which show on the outside give it a completed look even without the bottom rail on the outside. This might be a good solution for me too. Thanks for posting.

Mike this is the only correct way to make an external framed ledge and brace door because as you have said the collect the water in the rebate otherwise. Braces are essential and need to be well fixed I have developed a method that will go standard soon on all my gates of this type where the brace is morticed into the rail using a bare faced stub tenon. No matter how good the joinery on the frame over many years they will sag with out braces.

Very well put together, the wood combo may have been a miss matched order but it looks fantastic!
