24" Ipe Jointer "The Freight Train"

This was my first “from scratch” wooden hand plane. I had built the Lee Valley small plane kit to build my confidence then took on this guy as a practical user. The plane is made from solid ipe (Brazillian walnut) and weighs in at just shy of 14 lbs. with the 90 deg. fence installed. The iron is a Lee Valley A2 flat blade, approximately 3/16" thick.
Due to its awesome weight, it coasts through most grains with ease and the elongated forward handle makes it easy to apply pressure where needed. This beast has definitely become my favourite hand plane and it gets used often on preparing table slab boards.
