Carved Yellow Goldfinch and Robin

Editor's Choice - Jan 12, 2017

I carved these birds during a bird carving course through our local town recreation center. Basswood was used to hand carve the birds. They are painted first using one coat of shellac, followed by a thin coat of white gesso, and then acrylic paint. This is my first experience with hand carving.

Woods: basswood

Tools: hand carving knives and gouges

Way cool! I like how you’ve displayed them. What did you make the legs and feet out of?

The legs and feet were provided by the instructor. They are made of wire.
