Rocking Chair

This is my first Rocker; in fact, my first attempt at non-casework.

The rocker’s design is from Hal Taylor, and I used his DVD, comprehensive ‘how-to’ documentation, and templates. Along the way, Hal was very helpful in answering my questions. For those getting interested in building rockers, Hal’s program is a great place to start.

Certainly, I focus on what I’ll do better the next time – transitions between parts; using better wood species, and fine-tuning part shaping (from angle grinder all of the way through to precise hand planing). This is advanced woodworking, and I’m not quite up to the task, yet.

I post this to inspire others to venture into the unknown.

“This is advanced woodworking, and I’m not quite up to the task, yet” – I think you underestimate yourself. The chair is beautiful. I’d put that on my front porch in a heartbeat.

you did really well. Once you make one then you are up to the task with experience.

That is so impressive.

You might feel not yet quite up to the task but I sure think you are. Wonderful work on this Maloof rocker, it’s very beautiful (and well done despite your modesty).
