This is my latest keepsake box that incorporates my favorite wood combinations in its design. It’s made from figured cherry, curly walnut, and maple.
I chose to finish with Danish Oil to enhance the figure. Long after it dried, I padded on a barrier coat of shellac. Then top coated with satin lacquer. The inside is lined in black felt.
The legs tapered on the table saw. They are cut to length with a splay of 15 degrees. Mortises done at the router table.
The front and back angled at 15 degrees. All pieces with tenons cut on the table saw.
Ready for the final dry fit. The lid is rabbeted with a maple pull doweled into place. Not pictured (just realized?) but the bottom is a 1/4” mdf panel veneered with walnut.
This is a Christmas gift for my mother. Another one to add to her collection of lacquered boxes.
Measure "at least" twice and cut once
