Boat Rack (Finally!)

Editor's Choice - Sep 04, 2014

It only took just over a year but I finally finished the boat rack that my wife convinced me to build last summer. We reached a deal where I would do the woodworking and she’d do the finishing…in the end she did about 3/4 of the finishing thankfully because the woodworking was the easy part…
The wood is cedar and the finish is Sikkens Cetol Marine. Plans are slightly modified from

Madts ...

Where are the boats? :)

Madts beat me to it…

It looks like it can accommodate 4 boats. Not that I would know.
How easy is Sikken Cetol to work with?
Pretty expensive stuff!

Sikken Cetol is awesome, it is the best outdoor finish I’ve ever used, but yes, it is expensive $125 for a gallon. It is pretty thick and has very strict instructions that require you to put 3 and only 3 coats on, 24h apart. It also has a distinct orange-yellow tinge to it…I wouldn’t use it for everything, but for durability I’m not sure it can be beat!

and yes, it fits 4 boats…

I was reading that you need to recoat once a year. Is that the case from experience?

Manitario ...

I’ve had a bench done with it; it was in storage over the winter but it sat out all last summer and this summer and still looks new. Probably won’t recoat it this year, will see how it is looking next year.
