This is for the clients stereo equipment and whatever all that other equipment is that runs all over the house…
It’s painted with black pre cat undercoater then top coated with SW brite rubbed pre cat lacquer.
Took a lot of work to get the shine I wanted. Wasn’t looking for a gloss piano finish and didn’t want a satin. Did a lot of experminting (on the unit) before getting it to look like I wanted it to.
Not much to explain. I made the round corners from benderboard and cover them with 1/8" mdf.
I used the rubber type baseboard down on the bottom base. I have a couple of pics of it in the shop, but nothing blog worthy.

I’m meeting with the stone people tomorrow morning to make templates for the granite tops. Hopefully I will get some finished pics with the tops on after their finished.

lanwater ...

Good to hear from you Bently. I am glad to see you busy.

It will take me another 10 years or so, training hard, to get a finish like that.
That is a beautiful finish, smooth and nice.

Where do you get your bender board? I have the feeling I asked already:)

The murphy’s bed looks great. Now I have to redo mine (:-

Bently,

It looks like you have a couple of spring clamps! LOL

You certainly achieved the fine finish you were wanting. Although we’re more traditional in our furniture taste, we can see that you have made another outstanding piece.

The Murphy beds look great too. We’ll look forward to more details.

. . . or is there only a bed on the right end of the cabinetry?

Which precat lacquer did you use. Did you mix in the colors yourself? If so what did you use?

I have been wanting to try pre-catalyzed lacquer for some times but I am in the dark as to adding colors to it.

Busy man. Pretty Stuff.

Thanks Bently

Great looking stuff, wonderful work too.

Thanks Everybody!

lanwater, I buy the 3/8" benderboard from one of our local lumber suppliers (Petermans Lumber)
It comes in 4×8 or 8×4 so it will bend whatever direction you need.
The pre-cat I use is Sherwin Williams. ML Cambell makes a good one as well called Magnalac.
I’m not mixing color into the lacquer. I’m putting the color on and then clear coating afterwards.
SW can match most colors for you if you want.
Pre cat is just as easy to use as nitrocellulose lacquer. Cost more, but less coats required and it is more durable. And has a better finish and feel than regular lacquer.
(and it has a shelf life to consider)

L/W, I have another whole milk crate full of them. I used to do a lot of solid surface tops,
(not so much anymore though, every once in a while if I have to)
Just the bed on the right, hanging closet and real drawers on the left. Once everybody else gets out of the room, (stereo people, painters, electricians) and cleans their mess, I will get some pics and will open the doors up.

Thanks Paul and Mike, I appreciate it.

Always welcome lanwater

Bentlyj ...

Went back today and got final pics.

Not sure what to think about those red walls? She does have other red accents around the room, but…..

Bently,

Those loud colors seem to be all the rage these days, along with the contemporary furniture. One good thing is that you’ll probably have more work in just a couple of years because those styles never lasted very long the last time around and possibly won’t this time around either. LOL
