A frame for my Wizard Marquetry

I didn’t post the frame along with my Wizard project because it made the wizard picture too small, but I felt a little guilty about it so here it is.

I just made a quick frame out out pine, then I used a gouge to put those random carving marks into it and a ‘V’ iron for the borders. None of this work will impress any of you carvers or probably anyone else out there, but I wanted it to look crude, so I did my very best carving and it turned out just the way I wanted it to. Making the frame and the carving took about 2 hours altogether.

I hope it goes well with the picture. It’s hard to be objective about your own work, and this is a Christmas gift for my son and DIL, so please let me know if you think it really sucks and I will try again. Thanks for looking at it.

Wolf (& Rabbit!) ...

Well it certainly doesn’t suck. It takes a clever eye to know how to frame something as remarkable as your wizard. I think the rough look works great.

Mike this looks great, love the hand carved frame too. I think when you see this again in after some time away from it you will appreciate it more, I know I always do.

It looks very nice.
It contrast with the wizard quite well.

Thanks guys. After getting up this morning I took another look and I’m happier with it now, so I guess you are right Tim, it helps to get a little distance.
