Birdseye Maple and Walnut wedding photo box

This box was made as a wedding gift for my niece and her husband. The box is approximately 8” high by 13½” deep by 12¼” wide. The main body is made from birdseye maple. The bass top is wood-burned and colored with pencils, then bordered with walnut. The miter keys and dust lip are walnut. The interior dividers are bass and walnut.

The picture frame inside is glued up from poplar and walnut according to the pattern of the router bit. I used rare earth magnets to attach the frame inside the box so the couple can remove the frame and change the photo.

The hinge is made using Shipwright’s method.

Thanks for taking a look!

A real beauty L/W with lots of interesting and well crafted details. I like that it opens on the short end too.

Beautiful! I’m going to do a couple of keep sake boxes and yours gives me an idea for hinges, for at least one.

Thanks for sharing!!!

Thanks, guys, for the kind words. I think my next project has to be another of those practical ones! I’m too slow with boxes.
